We are excited to announce a significant change in how we process Form I-360, the Petition for Amerasian, Widow(er), or Special Immigrant, and related filings under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) for self-petitioning abused spouses, children, and parents. Starting April 1, 2024, we have centralized the intake process for these filings at the Nebraska Service Center.

Previously, once we received and receipted VAWA Form I-360 filings at the Nebraska Service Center, we would transfer them to the Vermont Service Center for intake processing. We would then send a transfer notice to the VAWA self-petitioner. However, with the implementation of more efficient processing at intake, we no longer need to transfer VAWA-based filings to the Vermont Service Center or send transfer notices to self-petitioners.

It is essential to note that this processing update does not affect where VAWA self-petitioners should file Form I-360 or how the adjudication process will take place. VAWA self-petitioners should continue to file Form I-360 with the Nebraska Service Center, as outlined on our Form I-360 Filing Addresses page. Additionally, USCIS officers from the Humanitarian, Adjustment, Removing Conditions, and Travel Documents Service Center, with specialized VAWA training, will continue to handle these cases.

Q: Will this change where I should file my Form I-360 as a VAWA self-petitioner?
A: No, you should still file your Form I-360 with the Nebraska Service Center.

Q: How does this new process impact the adjudication of VAWA self-petitions?
A: There will be no change in how VAWA self-petitions are adjudicated.

Q: Do I need to take any action as a VAWA self-petitioner due to this update?
A: You do not need to take any action. Simply continue filing your Form I-360 with the Nebraska Service Center as before.
